Over marketing –
Most firms are dead right after the first interview because of the unrealistic expectations they have set up in the marketing process. The truth is few firms are quite the firm their marketing team puts forth.
Experience –
Firm experience, people with experience but often times most of the production team is working on one of their first ten church projects.
Diversity –
Vastly different project types create unequal pressures and the required energy a church project requires is drained away. This also occurs when the principals try to work on too many projects.
Distraction –
Expansion plans, Remote offices, Office instability, Marital instability, Unhealthy life style, and an number of other factors cause distraction from the project.
Continuity –
Different people filling the roles of the project like marketer, Project Architect, Designer, Code specialist, Contact person, Drafter, Field Rep. kill continuity create gaps and mistakes and much of the committees communication drains away and is lost through these gaps.
Personal stake –
Those with a long term personal relationship will have a personal stake. Most of the other hands that touch a project will not have any stake except that of building a resume and earning a paycheck.
Short term Approach –
Firms that do not get invited back get a short timers approach to projects trhat only leads to more and more failures and self perpetuates itself.
Relational Approach –
Beware of the architect who has a wall of awards but does not come away from projects with lasting friendships. We believe a relationship is part of doing a good job but doing a good job most often leads to a good relationship.
